Preston Piccies on the Anniversary of the Most Glorious of Days for Swansea City

It is 38 years ago to the day that John Toshack took Swansea City into the First Division with a tense triumph over Preston in Deepdale. For many of today’s Swans fans it is more of fine footnote in our club’s history, an anecdote rather than a memory. For those old enough to have lived through those heady days it is a treasured recollection amongst so many low points that followed all too soon after.

I’m still in the process of compiling a proper tribute with a one off ‘Vetch Field Memories’ away game match report, detailing the fast, frantic action that saw Tosh’s super Swans ultimately triumph against a Preston side fighting for its Second Division life. But I can’t let this anniversary pass without some sort of tribute and so here are a couple of images that will fill any true Swans fan to brimming with nostalgia and pride.

The first is an incredible collage of photos taken by Martin Johnson – images of the ball hitting the Preston net supplemented by a triumphant Tosh and shots of the jubilant Jack Army.

The second is an ‘On This Day’ graphic giving you the team line-ups, scorers and historical trivia.

May these images remind you all that no matter what our current owners get up to, they can never take away (or sell off!) our treasured memories of days gone by and we will always be proud of our club even if we dislike the people running it. Enjoy them, and keep an eye open for that match report on arguably our greatest victory which should be available tomorrow.
