revolving door - in

It’s been another frustrating January transfer window – but unlike last year at least we have a couple of incoming players for our man Sandman Slim to scrutinise…

Speeding in

Ronald

Position: Winger

Deal: 🚨 Undisclosed Fee Klaxon 🚨 Bought from Gremio Anapolis

In a Nutshell: Brazilian with afterburners in his boots

The Skinny: The Brazilian is the big signing of the transfer window having been plucked from his home country club for what’s said to be a “seven figure fee”.

The number crunchers at the club are pinning their hopes on the 22 year old transforming our side and our season. And do you know what? He might just do that – at least based on the evidence of his first couple of outings in a Swans shirt.

The gaffer Luke Williams had called for more pace and athleticism in his squad and Ronald seems to have that in abundance.

A promising debut cameo in the defeat to Leicester whet the appetite, and then in his home debut against Plymouth the winger lit up the contest with his pace, skill and directness. The Swans ultimately fell to a damaging defeat but it wasn’t for the want of trying on Ronald’s part as he delivered a steady stream of service from the right flank. He could…should!…have had two assists at least if it wasn’t for his new teammates’ failings in front of goal.

Two goals in the win over Sunderland whet the appetite but he’s struggled a little since.

Fans will need to be patient as the precocious winger settles in and adjusts to a new country and the rigours of the EFL Championship, but there’s been enough on display already to suggest the Swans’ first Boy from Brazil can make a significant difference in this painful 2023/24 campaign.

Przemyslaw Placheta

Position: Winger

Deal: Free transfer from Norwich

In a Nutshell: Fast flying Canary looking for a new home

The Skinny: The soon to be released Canary has transformed into a Swan – at least for the next six months as we freely take over the last six months of his contract.

The Polish international – he’s represented his country at full level on seven occasions – is another pacy athlete, and will bring the same sort of direct running and crossing threat to the left side as Ronald on the right.

I’ve seen the Medium Pole (there’ll only ever be one Big Pole, and that’s Lukasz Fabianski) described as very talented but with question marks over his final product.

Hand on heart I can say I have no idea if that criticism is valid or not as I know little about the 25 year old. But I do know three things for sure:

1/ he’ll bring some more much needed pace and variety to our threadbare and pedestrian attack

2/ his name is worth at least 70 points on a Scrabble board, 200 plus if you can get it on a Triple Word tile

3/ Wyndham Evans has refused point blank to even acknowledge his existence on general principle after The Great Big Joel Latibeaudiere Incident!

Charles Sagoe Jr

Position: Winger

Deal: On loan from Arsenal

In a Nutshell: Explosive young Gunner

The Skinny: A surprise deadline signing, Charles Kwame Sagoe Jr is the third winger to join in the transfer window having been captured on a short loan from Arsenal.

He may well have a name that makes you think ‘Harvard law student’ but he’s actually an all action footballer able to explode down either wing or dribble his way through the number 10 position.

He’s yet another Premier League youngster we have relied on since our relegation – let’s hope he proves to be more Rhian Brewster than Armstrong Okoflex!!
