The 2022\/23 season saw A Touch Far Vetched raise just over \u00a35,000 for local good causes including the Motor Neurone Disease Association and the Swans’ Former Players Association. This season we are looking to help a former Swan, raise a few quid for the dogs and of course do all we can to help the Children’s Wards in Morriston Hospital…<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Slow Start to Bowen Aid<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Some of my best memories as a Swansea City fan were days at the Vetch watching a Frank Burrows side containing young winger Jason Bowen and so when news broke that Jason is battling against Motor Neurone Disease then I was determined to make a contribution through ATFV<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

Regular readers will know that ATFV<\/strong><\/span> took to heart the challenge of raising money for former Swan Lenny Johnrose who sadly lost his fight against MND last year. And so there’s no way that ATFV<\/strong><\/span> wouldn’t be doing its bit for Jason and his family – the money and the awareness we can raise may be small in the scheme of things but every little of both counts!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

That’s why we have launched our\u00a0Bang ‘Em In For Bowen Campaign\u00a0<\/strong>which is all about me coughing up a quid for each Championship goal and point the Swans secure this season, with a \u00a35 bonus each time Jerry Yates scores…alas, the Swans’ rather limp start to the campaign means a sluggish start, but we’ll look for ways to boost the total throughout the rest of the season. Maybe a \u00a310 deposit every time Michael Duff says something to upset the fans??\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Early Efforts at the Hospital <\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

ATFV<\/strong> <\/span>answered an SOS from the Children’s Wards over the summer; bubble guns were required! We like a challenge and so the call was answered – a little bit of fundraising magic later and\u00a0\u00a3400\u00a0<\/strong>raised and then spent on 22 bubble guns, 10 light cubes, 8 cool air fans, and more bubble fluid than you could shake a stick at!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Upon delivering these items Play Leader Lisa shyly asked me if we could help to buy proper smock tops for her and her team of play nurses as, unlike everybody else working at the hospital, they are not provided with uniform by Facilities. Lisa also needed help find someone to embroider or print a new Play Team logo on the new kit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Feeling rather good that Lisa was\u00a0finally\u00a0<\/strong>telling us what she needs without the need for me to drag it out of her, and thinking that this would be a relatively simple but expensive mission I accepted the challenge…I had until the start of October to sort it, Lisa had already identified the tops via Amazon, what could go wrong?<\/span><\/p>

Let’s just say it has been an absolute nightmare with supply issues being compounded by a colour clash with just about every other type of hospital worker making it almost impossible to purchase the tops Lisa needs…<\/span><\/p>

…so we aren’t going to purchase them…we are going to make them ourselves!! There will be more on The Great Hospital Smock Fiasco in our next issue but for now a big thank you to Liz @ Simply Elegant<\/strong> <\/span>for coming up with the idea of making the tops ourselves and sourcing the patterns, materials and, crucially, the seamstresses required to make it happen!!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Our next fundraising event is all set up for October 31st as we take over COPR Bar for our\u00a0Halloween Horror Scooby-Doo Night<\/strong><\/em> in aid of RSPCA Llys Nini.<\/span><\/p>

Come and enjoy a night of thrilling entertainment with live music from\u00a0Walk the Dog<\/strong> <\/span>and a black magic show from\u00a0Jon Jones<\/span>.\u00a0<\/strong>We’ll have a fun horror movie quiz to complete the entertainment and a small but well stocked raffle to raise the funds for our friends at Llys Nini. We will of course be encouraging you to dress up – either as one of the Scooby gang or your favourite horror character…I’ve already bookmarked my Scooby-Doo costume on Amazon!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
