I’m struggling to know just what goes through the minds of some of the people that inhabit the murky world of social media platforms.<\/h4>

What sort of a sicko do you need to be to react to a decision going against your football team by writing a death threat<\/strong> to the referee concerned?<\/p>

What sort of a clown do you have to be to react to a defeat by hurling abuse<\/strong> at your own players over Instagram?<\/p>

And what sort of a knuckle dragging, caveman throwback do you have to be to spew racist bile\u00a0<\/strong>at a rival club’s player simply because he made a tackle?<\/p>

I’m writing this the day after the Swans’ heroic defeat against Manchester City in the FA Cup and in the aftermath of the racist abuse that our own Yan Dhanda received after that game. Yan’s experience follows hot on the heels of Manchester United players Alex Tuanzebe, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford being subjected to the same vile treatment via Twitter and Instagram.<\/p>

At the same time, referee Mike Dean and his family\u00a0<\/strong>received death threats after Dean made a couple of controversial decisions that were overturned on appeal. Dean reported these to the police and subsequently requested a break from refereeing just to let the situation cool down.<\/p>

Now don’t get me wrong; I am no fan of Mike Dean and I absolutely despise the way he courts controversy and attempts to turn the attention on HIM no matter how big the game he’s in charge of is. But come on…death threats? Even if there is no serious intent behind them you’ve still got to be damaged in the head to make them at all.<\/p>

Dhanda found himself on the end of racist abuse from Manchester City fans simply for catching Rodri with a slide tackle \u00a0– it was a foul, it was a yellow card, it certainly didn’t deserve a red card and it sure as Hell didn’t merit the race card that a small minority of Citizens fans decided to play.<\/p>

Let me make it clear here and now, all at A Touch Far Vetched stand with Yan and support him – he is a Jack, and race, colour or creed has no bearing on that whatsoever.<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

These recent high profile incidents have led to the football governing bodies\u00a0<\/a><\/span>sending a joint open letter to Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter’s Jack Dorsey<\/a><\/span> \u00a0 – signed by old friend Trevor Birch on behalf of the EFL by the way – imploring them to take stronger action against online abuse on their platforms.<\/p>

But the simple fact of the matter is that nothing will really change until custodial sentences are handed out for this sort of thing. It’s not just shouting a nasty phrase in the street, this is systematic abuse and bullying that will grind a person down and can lead to drastic consequences…like the tragic Caroline Flack incident.<\/p>

Again don’t get me wrong, I’m no shrinking violet on Twitter – ask any of my followers! I’m as guilty as anyone for getting embroiled in the odd Twitter spat. But there’s a world of difference between going toe to toe with someone like Piers Morgan (and pointing out that he tapped a dead girl’s phone, the scumbag) and sending racist filth by private message.<\/p>

I’ve certainly never done that for any reason, let alone over something as trivial as a football result or incident.<\/p>

Talking about Twitter trolls, Paul Abbandonato really needs to pack in the provocation of Swans fans because he really is embarrassing himself.<\/h4>

The so called ‘Head of Sport’ for Wales Online really believes his own press, thinking he’s some sort of big tabloid hack covering a Cardiff City side that is ‘Bigger than Barca’ – which is fine as far as it goes, but when he starts publishing the odd article on the Swans and loading it with deliberate digs then he’s asking for all of the flak that he gets. With the exception of foul mouthed abuse of course.<\/p>

His supposedly serious tweets on Cardiff City are now at the point where you can’t tell if he’s a parody account or not – I mean he spent weeks undermining now\u00a0ex\u00a0<\/strong>Cardiff boss Neil Harris and trumpeting that Eddie Howe could take over, before working his way up to suggesting Athletico’s Diego Simeone would be perfect for the role! I kid you not. It came as no surprise to anyone other than Abband-all-hope when the CaPitAl club instead appointed the mighty…Mick McCarthy… #snigger<\/strong><\/p>

In comical desperation he even penned an article proclaiming Cardiff to be “top of the second half league” – more of the clickbait crap that has seen the paper’s circulation figures go down faster than Cardiff in the Premier League.<\/p>

The two bob Western Fail journo can chunter on about how superior the Cardiff squad actually is, spewing out his arrogant sense of entitlement all over the internet, as much as he likes…he can crack on…<\/p>

…but when he starts taking the proverbial out of the Swans to smugly get a rise out of our fans than he makes himself fair game for a bit of ATFV<\/span> urine extracting…<\/h4><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

There’s no\u00a0Vetch\u00a0Field Memories\u00a0<\/i>feature in this issue, the first time that’s happened for a long, long time.\u00a0<\/h4>

I’ve had to be creative with the\u00a0Remember When\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>feature too. Why? Because Covid has closed all the libraries for months on end and my primary source of research has been unavailable to me.<\/p>

Writing the\u00a0Vetch Field Memories\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>feature always has me Spitting Feathers as it’s so difficult to write. But once it’s done it’s always one of my favourite parts of the completed fanzine. Why? Because no matter what has happened at the Liberty in the past, and its mostly been fantastic, the Vetch Field will always be Swansea City’s spiritual home and this fanzine will always do its best to honour that.<\/p>

Let’s hope that restrictions lift soon, so we can all hug our friends and family, we can\u00a0have a beer before taking our seats at the Liberty and I can visit a library to write my favourite fanzine feature again!\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
