I can’t let today pass without a mention for Besian Idrizaj, who tragically and suddenly passed away seven years ago today.
It’s perhaps fitting that on the anniversary of the former Swans youngster’s passing, our U23 side lift some silverware; just 22 at the time of his death, Besian was a feature in our youth set up and he had a bright future ahead of him.
Alas, we never got to see what future would have looked like as he was taken away from us far, far too early.
It only seems like yesterday that we were laying flowers at the Liberty and watching a bereft Shefki Kuqi trying to make sense of his young friend’s sudden death of a heart attack. Mercifully, Besian didn’t suffer, passing away in his sleep during a trip home to Austria to visit his parents.
So much has happened around our club over the intervening seven years but the shock passing of one of our own will always stand out and should never be forgotten.
Sleep tight, Besian xx
